And They Said Bloggers Published Lies. Khir Toyo how?
December 10, 2007
Bloggers are vilified by the Malaysian Government for publishing lies. They say bloggers do not have all the facts. They tell the people of Malaysia to read the government-owned print media instead for the truth.
But how is it that when I read The Star and other government news sources lately (however sparingly it is these days), I come across lies being printed?
Last week, the Inspector-General of Police released a statement that linked the Hindraf group to international terrorist groups. The problem with making such claims is that this accusation and the other accusations in the statement were not backed up by even one piece of clear and irrefutable evidence. I blogged about this in Top 5 Stupid Statements From A Policeman’s Mouth.
Of course, the government-owned media went to town with this piece of news, without any sort of footnote or side-note that the statement they printed was not supported by any evidence. And they said bloggers published lies.
Yesterday, in a Star report, the Menteri Besar of Selangor, Mohd Khir Toyo told Indians not to heed an SMS to gather at Kg. Baru. He also told Indians not to provoke the Malays in Kg. Baru, because that was where the Malays ‘protected’ themselves during May 13 1969. As the whole nation has been led to believe by those UMNO politicians, the Malays in Kg. Baru are all blood-thirsty and violent, so don’t fuck around with them. So here is the Menteri Besar of Selangor, thinking that all Indians are stupid enough not to value their own lives by gathering in Kg. Baru. And they said Indians were not marginalized. For more insight on why these are lies, I cannot articulate it better than RPK at Malaysia Today. And they said bloggers published lies.
Today, in a Bernama report, Khir Toyo once again blasted Hindraf as a group that can wreck stability.
KUALA LUMPUR: Selangor Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Mohamad Khir Toyo has described the Hindu Rights Action Force (Hindraf) as an extremist group that could destabilise the country.
“I hope the Indians are not influenced by Hindraf,” he said in an interview over RTM1 on Saturday night.
Calling on the relevant authorities to act against the movement to protect the country’s peace, he added that the Selangor Government had not left out the Indians in its mission to provide educational and job opportunities to all races.
On the demolition of the temple at Kampung Rimba Jaya, Shah Alam, he said it had to be done as it was sitting on a private land.
Refuting claims that the temple was torn down just three days before Deepavali, the mentri besar said: “We pulled it down on Nov 15, that too after getting a court order.
“Apart from the temple, a surau and some squatter houses were also pulled down.”
Let’s lay out the facts. Just to show you Khir Toyo is a fucking liar.
Deepavali: 8th November 2007
Demolition Date Claimed by Khir Toyo: 15th November 2007 (One week after Deepavali)
Date Malaysiakini reported on the demolition: 31st October 2007 (One week before Deepavali)
Date I Blogged About Demolition: 31st October 2007 (One week before Deepavali) See Indian Temple Demolition and Chaos: Mainstream Media Silence for others that blogged about the demolition. Here are some pics on the demolition.

Face of a liar.
Some excerpts from the Malaysiakini report, dated 31st October 2007:
The Kampung Rimba Jaya in Padang Jawa, near Shah Alam was a chaotic scene last night when residents tried to prevent the Shah Alam City Hall from demolishing their houses.
The residents’ attempt to save their homes turned physical and bloody when scores were hurt in the ensuing melee.
Fifteen residents were also arrested and are now being detained at the Shah Alam Section 11 police station.
In the end, over 200 houses, a 100-year-old temple and a surau have been levelled to the ground by the authorities. Even the presence of MIC president S Samy Vellu could not save the houses and the temple.
…
Meanwhile, human rights activist S Kumaravel, 44, said a surau was also demolished by council authorities in the eviction exercise yesterday.
The surau is located in Rimba Jaya, about one kilometre away from the temple. The Sri Maha Mariaman temple is located in Rimba Jaya. Residents from nearby Kampung Karuppiah carry out their prayers at the temple.
Kumaravel, who is Jaringan Rakyat Tertindas (Jerit) exco member, said over 200 houses in Rimba Jaya were demolished in the exercise that saw at least 300 police personnel, including the Federal Reserve Unit, participating.
Rimba Jaya is mostly populated by Malays while Kampung Karuppiah is mostly populated by Indians.
The MPSA enforcement officers were beating people with batons, said Kumaravel.
“I saw an enforcement officer pulling out a knife and waving it around threateningly,” said Kumaravel.
It took almost three hours to demolish the Sri Maha Mariaman temple. The temple’s nursery was the first to be demolished when the exercise began yesterday morning.
After a pause at noon, the demolition continued at 2pm and continued for another three hours amidst resistance from at least 400 residents. Several hundred council enforcement officers were also present.
News reports said stones were thrown between both sides.
…
In addition to that, today’s Sin Chew Daily reported that police fired several shots at a lorry, puncturing at least one tyre. Nanyang Siang Pau reported that five shots were fired. The report said several residents had tried to escape the police in the lorry. They were later arrested.
There were also accounts of a stabbing, but which could not be verified as yet.
“They should have waited until Deepavali is over before they begin demolishing the temple. At least the residents have somewhere to pray,” said Kumaravel.
Early this morning, he had lodged a police report at Section 11 police station against the state government for ordering the eviction exercise.
“The police told us that the order was from the Menteri Besar (Mohd Khir Toyo). There was no court order to demolish the surau or the temple,” he added.
Tamil dailies also reported that the residents had shown their anger towards Samy Vellu for not doing anything to help them. Samy Vellu is quoted as saying that he would raise the matter with Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi.
Either Khir Toyo is a bloody liar, or Malaysiakini journalists can read the future. I’ll stick with the former. And they said bloggers published lies.
I just gotta say, Khir Toyo says the darndest things! And the government-owned media prints lies!

This guy graduated from pulling teeth to pulling wool over the eyes of the rakyat. Now he is pulling our legs and thinks he can pull a fast one. Hope the rakyat gives him the boot in the coming GE and make him fit only to “pull tea” becos he would have forgotten by then how to pull teeth. Mahaidiot, this guy.

anthraxxxx,
Perhaps the kettle is less black than the pot?
jasgill,
He’ll just play it safe and stick to state politics, I think.
lucia,
double standards la! BN one rule, others another rule.
I haven’t read about Nazri yet, but if he did say that, then really typical case of Minister who issues challenges that he knows no one will take up.

hey, you wakilL rakyat — art thou human or toyol?
PS: Thank God I’m from NS, not Selangor, inheritig CEO like this and previous one who didn’t know how to fill up an Immigration/Customs form when entering Queensland, but he knew how to convert RM into AUD and grenback at the wink of PM’s sleepy eye! God save Malaysians from their leaders, Amen

I’m ashamed that Nazri’s from Perak. Hey btw was he one of those ex-supporters of Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim who went back to Mahathir’s side?
And now his reward for loyalty to the “neo-royals of Malaysia” is as the Voice of BN (hope this reminds all of you of the government mouthpiece “the Voice of London” in V for Vendetta)

ylchong,
We read about cases where the local council officers tear down illegal extensions in other people’s houses. Of course, that’s another case of double standards that apply if you’re a powerful card carrying UMNO member.
And thanks for reminding me of the previous Selangor Menteri Besar. Supposedly he said he don’t have very good england, that’s why nots too sures hows fill itu form.
Henry,
Ah well, the shame shouldn’t be on you, the shame should be on Nazri right? There are tons of good orang Perak that you can be proud of. ;P
