Pak Lah: Hero Of The Indians
December 17, 2007
When Pak Lah speaks, the Attorney-General listens and does. That’s how screwed we are. To be exact, if you don’t agree with the government, you’re screwed. Otherwise, you’re fine.
KUALA LUMPUR: The 31 Hindu Rights Action Force (Hindraf) protesters facing an attempted murder charge have voiced regret over their actions to Attorney-General Tan Sri Gani Patail, Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi said.
“They also told the A-G that they will not participate in such activities in the future.
“I pity them. I have told the A-G to please consider this representation of theirs and decide as soon as possible,” he told reporters after chairing the Umno supreme council meeting at the PWTC here yesterday.
Abdullah said this when asked whether the attempted murder charge against the 31 would be dropped following appeals from various groups, including MIC president Datuk Seri S. Samy Vellu, for their release.
Abdullah added that the 31 protesters had said that many people had been misled by Hindraf.
The 31 were slapped with the charge after they allegedly injured a policeman at the illegal Hindraf rally on Nov 25.
Samy Vellu had said on Friday that he had conveyed the appeal of the protesters’ parents to the Attorney-General and hoped that it would be considered favourably.
He added that the parents told him their children took part in the rally without realising the consequences and also claimed that they were hoodwinked into believing it was for a worthy cause.
Such generosity and forgiveness from our Prime Minister. He’s really proving to be the savior and hero of the Indian people. This despite the fact that this was the same man that sent in the police to attack the demonstrators in the first place.
Of course, just like a dog following his master, the Attorney-General has obliged by dropping the murder charges against the Hindraf 31, a charge that was drummed up in the first place (if 31 people had wanted to murder someone, that someone would be dead by now don’t you think).
May I warrant a guess that the government is not able to produce/fabricate any evidence to convict these 31 on murder charges? That is why they are dropping the charges. Win-win situation, you see. The Hindraf 31 doesn’t have to be subjected to a protracted legal process that will wear them and their family down. Pak Lah wins points for showing that he really cares. The dictator showing a soft side! And cows fly too.
From Malaysiakini:
Attorney-General Abdul Gani Patail today dropped the attempted murder charge against 31 Hindraf supporters who were alleged to have gathered illegally and caused severe injury to a policeman at the Batu Caves temple in the early hours of Nov 25.
However further charges of causing mischief and illegal assembly against 26 of them remained.
Five students were among the 31 people and charges of causing mischief and illegal assembly against them were dropped today.
The 26 have pleaded guilty to the charges of causing mischief and illegal assembly today and will be sentenced on Dec 27. They have been offered a bail of RM500 with a surety each.
In all 31 Hindraf supporters were charged with attempted murder of a policeman and they have been in remand since Dec 4 after being denied bail.
Representations were made by several Indian-based political parties, including MIC and MIC and some Indian-based non-government organisations for the attempted muder charge to be dropped against the 31.
Pak Lah, hero of the Indians! Long live Pak Lah! Crisis over for MIC!
