Surprise! A Gift For Badawi
January 7, 2008
Last Friday, a group of young Malaysians consisting of artists, bloggers, poets, writers and activists went to PM Badawi’s office in Putrajaya to present him with a gift. No, these young Malaysians were not part of Damai, the sychophantic group with dodgy membership numbers that presented the PM with a memorandum that lambasted street demonstrations. The gift wasn’t another memorandum (not in the classic sense), but it was certainly something more memorable.
Because the PM was not in his office, the group gathered outside the office, carrying posters that poked fun at Badawi’s Sleepy behavior.

The group’s spokeperson, Badrul Hisham Shaharin indicated that he didn’t expect the PM to answer the group’s ‘memorandum’, because the sleepy PM had failed to reply any previous memorandum by civil society groups.
And the gifts were unveiled:

Wah! Yellow color pillow and bolster, with Petronas Twin Towers, Jalur Gemilang, and bears! Kawaii-desu!!! So cute!
From Malaysiakini:
Spokesperson for the group Badrul Hisham Shaharin said he and his eight other friends had come to the conclusion that the government’s ineffectiveness was due Abdullah’s purported “sleepiness”.
He added that Abdullah had previously been allegedly caught nodding off at various official functions both locally and abroad.
“So we wanted to send a ‘memorandum’ about what the youth wants. This memorandum is in form of a pillow… He can use the pillow to continue sleeping or wake up and realise that his administration is not efficient,” Badrul told reporters.
The funny thing was, the security guards took the gifts seriously enough to run the items through a security scan before it was taken away.

If Badawi receives the gifts, I do hope he enjoys it. He can have the pillow to drool on, while PM’s wife can have the bolster. Can’t wait to see him bring it to official functions as well.
Great example of young people expressing their views in a creative manner. Kudoes to the group.
(If you didn’t hear of this, that’s because the government-owned media doesn’t want you to know about such things. This piece of news was in Malaysiakini, and for RM150 a year, that’s just 41 sen a day. Isn’t it time you ditched your subscription to Star or NST already? I know some of you need to pick up doggie crap or line the pet cages with old newspaper, so I can understand if you only buy the Sunday bumper issue with lots of paper.)

Wow. These guys really have guts. Thank God they all look like Malay. If it was Indian youth, Hindraf would have got the blame (irrespective who they represent) and probably they would have been charged for what have you and more parang and keris threats would have been carried out by the UMNO youth!
Looks likes no one bothered!
Klaw: Democratic, actually I think they weren’t bothered because this was more of a low key thing.

Who is the seamtress/tailor for the pillowcase? The pillow looks comfy too..I want one too; looked like a special edition.
Badawi not only slept on work days, but even before he was made PM, I remembered he was once talking in a press conference with his cheek resting on his right palm THE WHOLE TIME! It’s sooo unprofessional.

constant drama,
Badawi, when his wife snatches his pillow: My pillowz! Iz Mine! Mine! Gif it back!
choco,
psst…I thought the government long time ago already mad?
cchivy,
The real kicker are the bears printed onto the pillow. If it was just the KLCC and Malaysian flag, I wouldn’t even bother posting this. And you can’t have it. It’s Badawi’s pillow, you can’t have it!
