Filth and Lies on the Internet
February 2, 2008
Lim Keng Yaik say this, Lim Keng Yaik say that. Everywhere these days, you hear Lim Keng Yaik banging left and right.
Latest tirade from Lim Keng Yaik, Gerakan advisor, and Energy, Water, and Communications Minister (outgoing):
The Barisan Nasional should find ways to challenge the anti-government “filth and lies” now spreading in the Internet, said Gerakan adviser Datuk Seri Dr Lim Keng Yaik.
He said he told Barisan representatives seven years ago that political parties needed to reply to the “lies” posted on the Internet.
“They should use websites to provide two sides of the story.
“Otherwise, the people will simply be drowned by one-sided stories spewed out by some bloggers,” he told reporters after visiting the construction site of SJK (C) Pei Ching here yesterday.
He added that the proliferation of anti-government views in the Internet might affect fence sitters in the coming general election.
On how students and youths had been using online networking and blogging sites to create virtual protest groups, Dr Lim said:
“In a free and democratic country, they have every right to do so. But we must fight all this.
“If it becomes rampant, the government or the future government must do something about it. Don’t ask me what because in another month, I am out.”
Erm…going to retire already, still so full of fire. This guy really needs to drink more “Wong Lo Kat”. Or eat less Char Siew Bao. Quite heaty.

But I do agree with Mr Lim. We need to combat those ‘filth and lies’ in the Internet, because the citizens of this country cannot, and should not be lied to.
Here’s a suggestion: Censor the Internet. It’s not like Mr Lim’s ministry or MCMC hasn’t done this before (and directly going against the MSC charter or something). Remember those financial scam websites that are now inaccessible?
So I guess it’s not going to be hard for him to ban these following websites that are generally recognized to publish ‘filth and lies’:
www.thestar.com.my
www.nst.com.my
www.bernama.com
Thanks, Mr. Lim. The filth and lies are becoming really rampant, especially during election season, so before you retire, do something positive la. Don’t just talk cock. While you’re at it, do something about RTM as well. Not sure how they managed to turn 500,000 Batu Caves devotees into 1 million devotees this past Thaipusam.
Additionally, Malaysiakini reported that NGO activists Charles Santiago and former Petaling Jaya Section Five Residents Association president Edward Lee joined the opposition DAP today (10th Feb 2008: a commenter has stated that Edward Lee has not resigned as PJ Sec 5 RA president.)
Lim Keng Yaik, who is already on form and on fire from previous days, had this to say:
On DAP backing Penang activist Charles Santiago as one of the candidates, Keng Yaik said this showed DAP’s desperation in roping in anyone who was critical of the government for their own political interest.
“…semua pun ambil, kucing kurap pun ambil, baik tak baik pun tak kira, ambil…” (they take all they can get, mangy cat, good or bad)
Hahaha, nothing to say. As if everyone who is anti-government wants to destroy the country. Look in the mirror and see who your party is sleeping with, Mr. Gerakan advisor. You think everyone is like UMNO? Come on.
Lim Keng Yaik says the darndest things! (Can’t wait for the day he retires and STFU. Fat chance of that happening though.)

correction dude, that’s a “tai bao” (extra big bun) he was eating. Probably he had too much of it so the carbo blocked his pea-size brain and the protein kept his F mouth open.

I agree, those lies..
And what about providing both sides’ view on traditional media?

Hi there,
Just wanted to clarify that Edward’s not the former PJ Sect 5’s president. He hasn’t stepped down yet. Not sure if it was a miscommunication or if it was intentional. Anyway, he didn’t mention anything about being a former RA president at the DAP press conference on Friday.
If you’d like to help Edward Lee during his campaigning period (which has already begun), do drop me an email

“What? You think everything the opposition say is true ah? Apaaa ini…. all they do is talk talk talk!!! Now, I’m immune to them already, I’m taking a lunch break, I don’t care lah.”

i actually respect him a bit and he is also my friend’s father in law… but this statement really… loses it all.

Samuel,
Looking forward to some Haiku
Psychoric,
Hahha, does protein do that?
KY,
I think best if the paper’s report things as it is, and give equal coverage. Cuz as I can see right now, they are giving lots of views to the opposition, but only focusing on their problems. The others are pro-government feel good stories, and really, it’s subtle propaganda.
charlotte,
I have made a note on the original entry about Edward’s status as president.
trashed,
In with the truth! Wish I could say the same about the VK Lingam Royal Commission of Inquiry.
agaga,
Hahaha, hope I can easily be immune to Lim Keng Yaik’s talk.
zewt,
Well, he has a right to say whatever he wants. But unfortunately, like you said, one of the after effects is losing respect. For example, accusing DAP of nepotism, while in actuality, that’s happening in his beloved party, that’s hypocrisy.
