Samy Vellu: DAP Telah Mati

So I was watching ntv7’s news yesterday, when Samy Vellu came on screen to rant about something. The news segment started off with Samy Vellu claiming ‘DAP telah mati’. I guess I wasn’t the only one watching that news segment, because Lim Kit Siang, the DAP senior politician seems to have caught it on TV as well.

Said Lim Kit Siang in his blog:

I don’t ordinarily watch television news but last night I caught a snippet of television news and saw Samy Vellu in a rampage against the DAP with the ultimate swear term: “DAP telah mati”.

DAP has been active, productive and vibrant for 42 years in Malaysian politics and is looking forward to the “battle of the century” in the upcoming general election. DAP will not die just because Samy Vellu wishes so.

What I am more concerned is how the longest-serving Cabinet Minister in Malaysia could so embarrass himself as to make a fool and public spectacle of himself over national television with such intemperate language and conduct.

Well, I wouldn’t be surprised at his behavior and speech because that’s how he always sounds on national TV. It’s like he’s always gearing up for a fist fight or something. He’s nearly always challenging someone whenever he get’s his 5 minutes of fame. Kayveas should know.

Samy Vellu’s lack of decorum on national TV aside, what prompted Samy Vellu to claim that DAP is dead? Does Samy Vellu have a point (for once maybe)? Here’s the gist of the news report, so you decide:

Basically, Samy was ranting about how DAP used temples to campaign, and he basically felt disgusted/shocked that DAP were using temples to campaign. He enlightened us that in his many years in politics, this is the first time he has seen people use temples to do campaigning. All that was preceded by “DAP telah mati”.

So I guess, what he actually means is that “DAP patut mati” (DAP should die) instead of “DAP telah mati” (DAP already died)?

Anyway, this is of course selective criticism, because when tear gas and water cannons were used by the police on the Batu Caves temple compound before the Hindraf rally, Samy Vellu was conspicuously silent in any criticism against the heavy-handedness of the police force.

So I guess in Samy Vellu’s warped mind, political campaigning in temples is even more serious than a police assault in temples? Oh well, who understands him nowadays anyway.

Oh, I’m thinking as well. I read somewhere that Samy Vellu gives a speech every Thaipusam in Batu Caves, I wonder if he has ever mentioned the ‘good’ MIC has done for Indians during one of his speeches. If he did, wouldn’t that be considered campaigning? And wouldn’t that imply that “MIC telah mati” based on Samy Vellu’s twisted logic?

I wonder….
