Azalina Back In Parliament. Bloggers Better Watch Out.
February 25, 2008
Acting Youth and Sports Minister, Azalina Othman, is back in Parliament without breaking a sweat as the Penggerang seat she was standing in went uncontested after the PKR candidate failed to show up. (At post time, Malaysiakini reports that BN has won 7 Parliament seats and also 2 state seats. Dang.)
This would be the 2nd consecutive time Azalina has not needed to go through an election, because she won uncontested in 2004 as well. This shows that either she’s very lucky, or no one dares stand against her.
Unfortunately for bloggers, this will give Azalina 5 more years to throw insults at them, after labelling bloggers as cowards last week. In case you missed it, this is the AFP report:
KUALA LUMPUR (AFP) — A Malaysian government minister has accused bloggers, who have been writing avidly on upcoming elections, of being cowards and warned they are being monitored, a report said Friday.
Youth and Sports Minister Azalina Othman said opposition parties were using blogs to get their message out because they believed the Home Affairs Ministry was busy monitoring reports in the mainstream media, the Star daily said.
“They think they can get away with it but it is not the case as they too are being monitored,” she reportedly said, adding that bloggers were cowards and a nuisance to the ruling party.
Opposition parties have resorted to blogs, SMS messaging and YouTube in their campaign for the March 8 polls, to dodge a virtual blackout on mainstream media.
Major newspapers and television stations — many partly owned by parties in the ruling coalition — have given blanket coverage to the government and its achievements since the election was called.
The opposition parties rate barely a mention, but thanks to the Internet they have begun campaigning feverishly in cyberspace with the aim of reaching young, urban, educated voters.
Media watchdog Reporters Without Borders ranks Malaysia 124 out of 169 on its worldwide press freedom index, and says the main media are “often compelled to ignore or to play down the many events organised by the opposition”.
The government has previously threatened that bloggers could be punished under draconian internal security laws which provide for detention without trial.
Hmm, I wonder which screw came loose in Azalina’s head…since when was it wrong for opposition parties to use blogs to get their message out? Does she suggest the opposition parties try RTM or TheStar? And just because bloggers don’t agree with the government, doesn’t mean they are cowards.

You cowards, I’m watching yo’ ass!
Just because Azalina likes to waste tax-payer’s money on expensive projects doesn’t mean ALL politicians like to waste tax-payer’s money on expensive projects.
Anyhow, the fact that Azalina might retain her Youth and Sports portfolio might prove quite disastrous (to the nation’s coffers), as she might start suggesting another 100 million dollar project to waste on our under-performing, and not very deserving athletes. Well, Azalina has thrown down the gauntlet to bloggers. Perhaps she should also realize that bloggers are watching her, maybe even more closely now. Whatever she says or do will forever be documented by Google.
Talking about Google, that is how I found a 2006 blog post by Jeff Ooi on Azalina’s speeding tendencies: But makciks ‘Up to Speed’ ma! I wonder if she got a special minister discount on those single digit car-plate numbers.

Remains to be seen. I am waiting to see if an explanation will surface by PKR. Maybe the candidate was a coward blogger

Please don’t rub all bloggers by the wrong end
Never with one brush all bloggers openly offend
Your own day will come when you need to defend
Your own foolish words, thoughts and misdeeds with needs to make amends

The whole approach by these ruling morons is to promote an atmosphere of fear.
Instead of being threatened by them, we need to do the opposite. Create more blogs, make more comments in each other’s blogs and spread the word.

Bright pink lipstick and bright orange outfit…………….
I wanna take my ‘Coco Channel Style Guide’ book and whack her over the head with it.
Seriously.
You know, she says all that kind of thing about bloggers. Cowards and nuisence. Well woman, you’re a dumbass for clashing those two shades together and you and that other guy who wears bowties should make babies together and one day would create the world fugliest baby.
And then we can call the World Guiness World Records people to come and record that the world fugliest baby comes from Malaysia and from 2 ministers no less. I mean that’s what they like to do right. World longest this, world biggest that etc……
Man that lipstick is bugging me. I really wanna whack her with my Coco Channel book. That book is about 600+ pages thick. Should do the trick………………….
