Samy Vellu Election Quotes To Remember

Some of the greatest quotes from Malaysian politicians can be attributed to MIC president, S Samy Vellu, who is also fondly known in the blogosphere as “Semi Value”. How he got such a nickname, one just has to wonder (no need to wonder so hard la).

Who could ever forget him blaming the weather or Tuhan for landslides, without directly taking responsibility as Works Minister?
Who could also forget him vowing that he would never return to Kuala Lumpur if MIC loses in the Lunas by-election a couple of years ago? MIC lost, but have we stopped seeing Samy Vellu in Parliament or in KL?

Therefore, during the election season, one can never count out great quotes hot off the mouth of Samy Vellu, and it would be a dereliction of duty to this blog if I did not share some jewels with you (all quotes are reported as usual by Malaysiakini):

Samy Vellu

#1: MIC and Indians are like husband and wife

The relationship between the Indian Malaysian community and MIC is like husband and wife, according to party president S Samy Vellu today.

In this relationship, the husband should not ask what the wife has done for him, said the embattled veteran politician.

“The wife prepares morning tea, lunch and dinner for him, cleaning, taking care of the children. Whatever happens in the house have been taken care of by the wife, so the husband shouldn’t question what she has done for him.

“Similarly, the Indian community should not ask what the MIC has done for them because we have shown them what we have done,” he told reporters after a meet-the-people session at Batu Kawan in Penang today.

My explanation of #1: What Semi Value is trying to say is, Indians, shut up and don’t ever question MIC.

#2: Liquor works on Indians

“People who bunyi-bunyi di jalan raya (make noise on the streets) are all from the opposition. They are using the name of Hindraf. But they are not Hindraf.

“They are all samseng Keadilan (PKR thugs). They are causing fear amongst the public,” he said.

Continuing his verbal tirade against the opposition, Samy Vellu accused the parties of using underhanded tactics to instigate Indians to take to the streets.

“Opposition parties give liquor to people to cause trouble. This is the new technique of the new century.”

My explanation of #2: What Semi Value is trying to say is that, Indians are a bunch of alcoholics and very easy to coax to get into trouble. Just bribe them with liquor and they will take to the streets without even thinking of their own personal safety. Indeed, this is THE technique of the new century.

#3: If you want war, we’ll give you war.

Describing the action of the demonstrators as “war”, the MIC president warned that his party was capable of retaliation.

“We can do that too. If they really want to have war, we can show them war (to show our strength). We have thousands of MIC Youth (members). But they follow the law,” he said.

My explanation of #3: Ever heard the rumor that Semi Value was actually a big gangster, and has henchmen ready to do his beck and call? Was Semi Value hinting to us what the official name of his gang was?

If Semi Value is voted out of Parliament this time around, I wonder if he will ever grace every Malaysians’ consciousness with such quotable quotes again? One shudders to think of the possibility of not having Samy Vellu around anymore, but in the end, I think it might be worth it. :)

You know what they say - great leaders use metaphors to teach and inspire.
The thing is - to inspire gundu people you have to use gundu metaphors la.
Erm, so, what I am saying is - gundu people listen to gundu stories, and vote accordingly..

Uncle Sam, if he quits or loses, I wont be sitting in front of the evening news anymore. No more funny remarks.

I especially like his spoken Malay, he uses the darnest vocab. He should learn a thing or two from Karam Singh Walia, great reporter and journalist.
