8/3/08 Ipoh: Early Morning Election Social Faux Pas

So I woke up at 6.00 am this morning after only 3 hours of sleep to go for the polling agent/counting agent briefing. (If I woke up at 6am, friends who know me will realize how serious I’m taking this duty).

So packed, and took a leisurely 3 minute drive to Kampung Simee. So apparently, there seemed to be some miscommunication over my registration as a polling/counting agent, and my name could not be found in any list. I approached this young guy who seemed to be running the ‘bilik gerakan’ for DAP Canning. He was quite helpful but in the end, nothing could be done, my name refused to appear. Anyway, I signed up again to be a backup, but I predict that they won’t need me since they already have quite an impressive backup list. Then I asked what his name was since I was grateful for his help…

He answered: Wong Kah Woh (For the uninitiated, that was the guy running for the Canning State Assembly seat in Perak, which was where I would be voting).

Hahahaha, FUCK! The aunty and uncle standing around me started giggling and you can imagine my embarrassment for not recognizing him (after all, he looks different from his posters).

Me to aunty/uncle: “Mo siew ngo la. Jan hai choot chau” (Don’t laugh la, really embarrassing).

So anyway Kah Woh, apologies from this blogger for not recognizing you earlier, since I never had the chance to see you in real life. Anyway, you have my vote, since my father thinks you’re alright. And my father rarely thinks anyone is alright, so that says a lot.

So that’s my first mistake in the morning, and I figure I should get some sleep before heading to Ho Seng On to cast my vote.
