Penangites, You Lucky Bastards

Lim Guan Eng just got sworn in as Chief Minister of Penang this morning. Dr. Koh Tsu Koon was there of course to witness the ceremony, and before I continue, I would like to say that Dr. Koh has been the utmost gentleman about the handing over of power. This shows the maturity of the previous Penang state government.

Compare Koh Tsu Koon’s behavior to the Perak Menteri Besar, Tajol Rosli who refused to leave his official residence and was crying about the loss. Boohoo. Some reports also say the Selangor Menteri Besar is busy burning documents and files, but that has yet to be substantiated fully.

Anyway, Malaysiakini also reports that CM Lim has stated that his administration’s first actions will be the following:

1. Freedom Of Information Act to be impemented. This would probably mean official state documents will no longer be under the purview of the Official Secrets Act, and people can review the documents whenever they want.

2. Public office bearers to declare all their assets. This is to ensure that the people working for the public are clean!

3. Look to restore local council elections. MPP, and no more pestering your state assemblyman and parliamentarian to fix your bloody longkang.

4. Open tenders for all government contracts and procurements.

5. And finally, a gift for all Penangites, all summonses by local councils against hawkers and traffic offenders are now waived.

Penang people, damn lucky la you all! If Lim Guan Eng really does this things, Penang’s administration is heading towards being developed country status. Let’s hope its not just talk-only, like Abdullah Ahmad Badawi.

If Guan Eng walk his talk, Barisan Rakyat will have a bright chance to convert the whole Malaysia in the next term. Provided other newly elected MPs also fulfill their duties and promises.

    A new CM for Penang
    A new day started there
The island I once enjoyed staying
I left too much traffic jams
    And the beach becomes dirty
    People complained
    Yet it is business
The quality of life smoke in your eyes

Likewise I didn’t stay in my home state
    Selangor another new era there
I plonked myself into the silver state
    Enjoying the free traffic flow……
    No sweat driving around

    Penang must be lucky
A new direction came to play
    Something must be right then
    I wish it will be…..

    For Selangor is waiting
The Sultan wants to talk his subjects
When he finds he can believe in them
Khalid is the man to lead the state

    For Perak who will be?
    It isn’t a Muslim State
    Non-Muslims shouldn’t be afraid
DAP will be the watch dog
Let the opposition rules in peace

A new day for a new chapter
Turning the pages I get a smile on my face
I breathe the fresh air in the silver state
She is still good to me……
