If Badawi Steps Down As PM, Who Do You Want Replacing Him?
March 17, 2008
After BN’s performance in the 12th General Elections, Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, the PM of Malaysia must be feeling the heat. So far, Mukhriz Mahathir has written a letter openly calling for Badawi to resign, and Tengku Razaleigh has initiated calls for an EGM to be held in May to ‘discuss’ BN’s performance.
UMNO members are not the only ones calling Badawi to step down. The normal rakyat, who feel that Badawi has failed miserably in delivering his 2004 election promises have also called on Badawi to give way to a new PM. There’s even an online petition now to support Mukhriz’ call for Badawi to step down (Btw, I am a firm believer in the uselessness of online petitions). What I’m curious about now is this:
What if Badawi does step down (or get pushed out) as PM within the next few months? Who would you rather see replacing Badawi as the Prime Minister of Malaysia? Have you given that any thought? Obviously the candidate will be from UMNO, else we might see even more massive demonstrations if MCA or MIC leaders were even nominated.
The Candidates
Would you want Najib Razak taking over as Prime Minister? Even though there are still lingering questions on his involvement with the Altantuya Sharibuu C4 murder? Or perhaps someone can still remember his infamous call in an UMNO Youth rally back in the 80s to ‘bathe their kerises in Chinese blood’?
Would you want Tengku Razaleigh or Ku Li, the one who challenged Badawi for the top seat in 2004 but failed? Perhaps you should read our fellow blogger, Ktemoc’s views on Ku Li.
Or perhaps you might want to consider Hishammuddin Hussein, the famous keris-waver, who plays ‘defender of Malay rights’ in UMNO Youth events, and then plays the ‘Chinese education sympathizer’ when elections are near?
How about people like Nazri Aziz?
Or maybe this following person will be acceptable to you all?

You know I’m just kidding la
UMNO is so devoid of credible leaders that I feel like giving Badawi another chance for 5 years. The worst that could happen is the opposition taking over the country if Badawi screws up again, but would that necessarily be a bad thing?
Perhaps then, the pool of candidates that qualify to be PM is wider?

Choosing a good PM material candidate from UMNO is extremely tough with so many stand up comedians and clowns that dwells within the party’s rank.

I think 5 more years of abdullah is better than any of those that you’ve mentioned. though abdullah is zzz, i believe he played fair-er than any of those would. I cant imagine what would Tun M resort to if he would have lost 1/3…maybe we wont need to cos he may not lead us to this miserable state. ok, i’m loosing my point here.
like i said, 5 yrs of abdullah is ok. my that time, opposition would be strong enough to govern Malaysia. Just hope all that goodness championed by Barisan Rakyat does not go up in smoke.

With the new Cabinet line up, looks like my choice of Zaid Ibrahim has got fresh legs but maybe not yet, though.
