Wakenabeb! Abusing Police Force For Your Entertainment

If you’re never heard of Wakenabeb, then it’s either you have an Astro subscription or you don’t watch ntv7. To describe Wakenabeb simply, it’s a TV show that showcases various pranks on individuals. Think MTV Punk’d. Or think JJ and Rudy on radio, but a lot less fucking funny.

One of the pranks in today’s episode showcased real police personnel in real police cars interrogating the victims for possession of drugs. It cannot be doubted that these are real police personnel because they blacked out the car registration plate of the police patrol car. And impersonating police in this country is illegal anyway, so I’m pretty sure those were real cops.

I am honestly fucking disgusted with the producers of this show, and more disgusted with PDRM because they are BOTH abusing tax payer’s money. One has to ask why the police agreed to participate in what is a prank, when they are actually supposed to be WORKING. By working, I mean going on patrols and also watching out for illegal activities. Not getting on camera and harassing innocent victims of a prank. I hope people don’t forget the name of Nurin and Sharnilie, because we have child rapists out there waiting to be caught. Bloody hell!

More importantly, this is not the first time Wakenabeb has showcased PDRM in their pranks. The following video is a clip from their earlier seasons. This is even worse than today’s Wakenabeb episode because I count the following abuses of authority and resources:

1) Misusing a police patrol car for a traffic stop
2) Illegally detaining someone without reason or suspicion
3) Abusing their working hours to participate in a prank
4) Wasting petrol to ferry a ’suspect’ to the police station
5) Misusing a police station conference room for filming

Policing is bloody serious business. People say that the police always complain of being underpaid, that’s why they take bribes and participate in corrupt activities. Well, after watching this shit on ntv7, I think some of them really deserve to be underpaid for not taking their jobs more seriously. In fact, in most countries where the police are actually respected for their professionalism, these cops would already have been sacked or put on a desk job.

The ntv7 management should be taken to task for allowing such a show to be aired on their channel. If they can apologize to the public for Faizal Tahir doing his ’strip tease’, then I think they should apologize for endorsing and marketing a show that clearly shows such abuse of power.

And no. Having a short anti-dadah message by PDRM at the end of the show does not justify anything.

Oh Tuhan, when can we have a professional police force that doesn’t set up arbitrary roadblocks, attack peaceful demonstrators, engage in corrupt practices, beat up citizens like animals, and also a police head that doesn’t lie through his fucking teeth.

Why does Wakenabeb continue to use police as part of their pranks? That is because there hasn’t been enough public outrage over their actions. If you are as outraged as I am, and you are a blogger as well, I hope you can help in creating more public awareness over this show.
